From time to time we invite guests to post about items or interest and are pleased to have Mr. Pravin Srivastava, Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India, join us here. - Ed.
Our goal at the Archeological Survey of India is to find new ways of sharing India’s history and culture with people at home and around the world. One way we can do this is by telling the stories of India’s national monuments, the symbols of our country’s cultural, historical, and artistic heritage over 100 years old.
The Taj Mahal is one of our national treasures. Built over 350 years ago by emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved queen, this iconic white marble mausoleum has held the gaze of countless admirers for tens of decades. Every visitor to the Taj Mahal not only admires its stunning architectural structure, but also discovers the story that inspired its creation.

Working with Google to create this immersive Street View imagery, we invite people across India and around the world to virtually view and explore these sites, and in the process, learn more about our country’s history. This is just the latest step in our journey towards helping tell the stories of India’s diverse cultural heritage in new ways, so stay tuned.
