New Chromecast and Chromecast Audio now available in India

Chromecast first launched in India in 2014
, many people have enjoyed the ease of casting movies, shows and music from their phones straight to their TVs. Today, the new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio are ready to enjoy.
has a fresh design and is easier to plug into TVs with crowded HDMI ports. It supports the latest Wi-Fi standards and adapts more easily to changing Wi-Fi conditions in your home, so you get higher quality video with less buffering. We added two new colors so you can cast in style while watching content from your favourite entertainment apps including Netflix, Hooq, Eros Now and YouTube.
The new Chromecast will be available on several marketplaces including Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm and retailers like Reliance and Croma for 3,399 INR.
is a small device that plugs into your existing speakers so you can stream your favourite music, radio and podcasts over Wi-Fi. It works with tons of apps, including Saavn and Wynk Music. Just like Chromecast, it works from anywhere in your home with your favourite devices, including Android, iOS, and laptops.
Chromecast Audio will be available from several marketplaces including Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm and retailers like Reliance and Croma for 3,399 INR.

High-speed public Wi-Fi rolls into nine more train stations across India

If you’re one of the 1.5 million people who travel through
train stations everyday, you’re in luck! While you wait for your train, you can now look forward to free high-speed Wi-Fi to hopefully make that wait a bit more enjoyable and productive.
These nine stations join the
first we brought online in January, Mumbai Central
, where more than 100,000 people are already logging into the high-speed Wi-Fi every week. We hope that people passing through these first 10 stations will enjoy being able to easily stream (or offline) an HD video, research their destination, or download a book or a new game for their journey ahead.

It’s still early days, but we’re really happy about this progress towards
making high-speed Wi-Fi available to more than 10 million Indians every day
. In the months ahead, we’ll continue to work in close partnership with Indian Railways and RailTel, to reach 90 more stations this year, and eventually 400 spanning the whole of India.

Since T-Series started their YouTube channel in 2011, they’ve
embraced the change in the way people listen to music, in part by adapting their content for people across a spectrum of connectivity. For example: for people who worry about data consumption, they make
lyric-and-audio-only videos, or tracks with album art. Of course, they also have high definition music videos for those who want that option. Their focus on multiple formats has helped them spread a wider net across their audiences. T-Series has also built a strong base of loyal fans by staying in conversation with them on social media.
T-Series also recognize that anybody, anywhere can be a fan of their music. By putting their music on YouTube’s global platform, they have reached viewers worldwide. In fact, adding subtitles and lyric videos have helped them drive a viewership where more than 60% of views are from overseas.

Google releases new traffic alerts on Google Maps

Summer is here and for many of us that means heading out for a road trip to the nearest hill station. The only thing that might slow you down? Traffic. Luckily, Google Maps can help you find the most ideal route to your destination with the least delays. Just in time for you to hit the road, we’ve updated Google Maps with new traffic alerts to help you avoid jams.
Now when you input your destination, you’ll get a spoken alert for upcoming traffic conditions that helps you identify the quickest route. While you’re on the road, Google Maps will give you a heads up if congestion lies ahead, and how long you’ll be stuck in a jam. You’ll also get the option to take alternate routes, including explanations for why one is recommended—whether it’s the fastest or just avoids traffic.
Once you’re in
on your Android or iOS mobile, you’ll see these updates automatically.
Whether you’re headed out of town this summer, or staying closer to home, Google Maps is here to smooth the way to your destination.

Get your favorite places on the map with Local Guides

Looking for a quiet weekend getaway with family, planning a night out with friends, or exploring a new neighbourhood coffee shop - picking the right place to go to can be tough. To help make these decisions easier, we’ve recently expanded the
program in India on Google Maps. The Local Guides feature gives you the chance to share your discoveries and experiences directly to the map, making it more useful and easier for everyone.
We held our first ever India Local Guides event in Bangalore on April 6th and
Guides join a global community of people that are exploring the world and making Google Maps more useful for everyone while at the same time earning perks.
Every place a Local Guide contributes to on Google Maps earns them points towards unlocking something new—from early access, to new products, to exclusive contests and event invites, to bonus Drive storage, and more.
You can earn points and level up by writing reviews, uploading photos, adding new places, fixing outdated information, and answering simple questions. Each contribution type is worth one point, so you can earn up to five points per place.
The more you contribute as a Local Guide, the more benefits you’ll enjoy. Here’s an overview of what you’ll unlock at each level:
Level 1 (0 - 4 points):
Enter exclusive contests (think new Google devices!) in select countries.
Level 2 (5 - 49 points):
Get early access to new Google products and features.
Level 3 (50 - 199 points):
Show up in the Google Maps app with your official Local Guides badge.
Level 4 (200 - 499 points):
Receive a free 1 TB upgrade of your Drive storage, allowing you to keep all the stories, photos, and videos from your travels in one safe place.
Level 5 (500+ points):
The very top Local Guides will become eligible to apply to attend our inaugural summit in 2016, where you’ll be able to meet other top Guides from around the world, explore the Google campus, and get the latest info about Google Maps. Look out for details early next year.

YouTube Gaming comes to India

Today, we’re making the YouTube Gaming mobile app available on Android and iOS in India. YouTube Gaming is an app that keeps you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web—all in one place. We launched YouTube Gaming in the U.S. and U.K. last August, and we’re excited to invite new players to join us. You can continue to access YouTube Gaming on your desktop from anywhere in the world on gaming.youtube.com.
YouTube Gaming is built to be all about your favorite games and gamers, with more videos than anywhere else. We automatically pull in all gaming-related videos and live streams from YouTube to YouTube Gaming. From “Asteroids” to “Zelda,” more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title.
You’ll also find channels from a wide array of game publishers and YouTube creators.
Keeping up with these games and channels is super easy, too. Add a game to your collection for quick access whenever you want to check up on the latest videos, or subscribe to a channel to get a notification as soon as they start a live stream. Uncover new favorites with recommendations based on the games and channels you love. And when you want something specific, you can search with confidence, knowing that typing “call” will show you “Call of Duty” and not “Call Me Maybe.”
We know live streams bring the gaming community closer together, so we’ve created a dedicated destination for them within YouTube Gaming. On Android, we’ve also made it simpler to broadcast your gameplay to YouTube. You can now record and live stream mobile gameplay on-the-go directly from Android devices using Mobile Capture in YouTube Gaming. You don’t need any additional hardware or software—just tap Go Live in the YouTube Gaming app, turn on your selfie cam and record your commentary with your phone’s microphone.

Health info in the Knowledge Graph comes to India

Just last week, my father-in-law in Chennai was experiencing chest pains. One of the first things our family back in the U.S. did was to look online for “heart attack” and “heart attack symptoms”. It wasn’t just us searching either: our relatives in India were searching too. Fortunately, my father-in-law got the care he needed quickly and is now fine, but it was important for our family to be able to find information about what his symptoms could mean and what he was experiencing.
Around the world, health conditions are among the most important things that people ask Google about. In fact, one in 20 searches are for health-related information. From today, you’ll be able to find health information more quickly and easily with the launch of health information in the
in India. Next time you ask Google about common health conditions, we’ll show you information cards with typical symptoms, as well as details on how common the condition is — whether it’s critical, if it’s contagious, what ages it affects, and more.
You’ll be able to see these new cards when you search for conditions with the Google app on your Android or iOS phone or tablet, as well as your mobile and desktop browser. For some conditions you’ll also see high-quality illustrations from licensed medical illustrators. You can also search by symptom: if you look for “
Madras eye symptoms
,” you’ll be taken straight to the symptom tab and you can easily download a PDF copy of these to print.
Health cards for Type 2 Diabetes, Dengue fever and Obesity
The new cards cover over 400 health conditions and have been designed with the Indian context in mind. Available in Hindi and English, the cards cover common tropical conditions like malaria and dengue fever. Sometimes connectivity in India can be a challenge, so if you’re on a bad connection we’ll load a “lighter” version of the cards so you can get to the information you’re looking for quickly.
India is the third country after the U.S. and Brazil to have health information in the Knowledge Graph. We consulted and worked closely with a team of local and international doctors to curate and validate this information. Here in India we worked with
Columbia Asia Hospitals
to carefully review the content. We also consulted with the
All India Institute of Medical Sciences
, who are community health workers, during product development to ensure the information the cards present is useful and accessible.
